Title: Applying First Aids Curriculum in Riyadh High Schools

Abstract

Background: Providing the school students by the knowledge and skills of first aid can play an important role in public health outcome.

Aim: To assess the awareness of the high school students about first aid, and their desire to get the knowledge by a first aid curriculum.

Methodology: 156 high school students in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia were surveyed.

Result: The student age group was from 16 to 18 years. The number of the male students was 23 (14.7% of all students), while the female number was 133 (85.3% of all students). 109 of the students (about 69.9%) claimed that they have some knowledge about first aid, while 47 of them (30.1%) said that they do not have. In the other hand, 88 (56.4%) of the students stated that they do not have any experience about first aid. The number of the students who have the desire to learn the first aid was 134 (85.9%) compared to 22 (14.1%) who do not care about learning first aid. Also, 145 (about 92.9%) of the students agreed on applying first aid curriculum in the school, while 11(7.1%) of them did not agree. 149(95.5%) of surveyed students said that they think learning first aid will be helpful for them in their life, and 145 (92.9%) of them think that it will be also beneficial for the whole society.

Conclusion: It is very important to enhance the students to provide first aid by applying first aid curriculum to increase their knowledge and skills of first aid. This will be beneficial not only for the students, but also for the whole society in the future.
